Kelly is a senior at North Carolina State University, where she is majoring in language, writing, and rhetoric, and pursuing a minor in vocal performance.

Previously, Kelly has interned at In the Spotlight magazine in Greensboro and the Jamestown News bi-weekly newspaper. She also has served as an intern in Morgan Stanley's Greensboro office. At N.C. State, she served as a copy editor for the daily newspaper The Technician.

In her spare time, she performs with the "CIA," N.C. State's improvisational comedy troupe.

Kelly is a native of Greensboro.
